Through this product, we aim to make high-quality, solvent-free decaffeinated coffees accessible. Our "Origin Select Decaf" product is a blend of single-origin arabica varieties, chosen for their cup quality and grown by several small-scale producers.
Our Colombian E.A. (ethyl acetate) decafs are sampled just like regular green coffees and specifically identified for decaffeination. The treatment is done in Colombia before the coffee is exported.
But how is this done?
Let us explain: The green coffee is soaked in a mixture of water and a solvent called ethyl acetate, which is naturally derived from fermented sugar, among other natural sources.
The solvent binds to the chlorogenic acid salts in the coffee, allowing for the extraction of caffeine. The coffee is then removed from its bath and steamed at low pressure to ensure no traces of E.A. remain.
The finished product is almost entirely free of any caffeine content, with only 0.1 to 0.3%.
