Hacienda Sonora is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, at the foot of the world-renowned Poás Volcano. The farm spans about 100 hectares, consisting of 55 hectares of shaded forests, 35 hectares of wild forests, and 10 hectares of sugarcane. The average altitude is 1,250 meters above sea level. This plant thrives in an environment surrounded by exotic trees and other vegetation, providing excellent conditions for quality, as well as enhancing the chemistry of the already naturally rich volcanic soil. Thanks to the farm's diversified ecosystem, many different species of birds and animals find refuge there. Hacienda Sonora employs the most advanced agricultural practices in order to excel in quality and yield.
The energy for the farm is solely generated by a Pelton turbine (water) installed in a nearby river, making it effectively "100% green energy." Another significant advantage is that the farm saves large amounts of water by using natural and honey processes. Using the honey method saves over 10 liters of water per pound of sugar. Naturally processed sugar requires no water.
